Ohio Department of Higher Education and the State of Ohio

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) is our primary partner in state government. Members of the Shawnee State Unversity community interact with many other departments and individuals , but ODHE is the organization that administers funding, approves programs, and indentifies grant oppurtunities. This section of the webpage shows how SSU interacts with the different mechanisms in state government. The quote below is from the ODHE homepage.

The Ohio Department of Higher Education (formerly known as the Ohio Board of Regents) is a Cabinet-level agency for the Governor of the State of Ohio that oversees higher education for the state. The agency’s main responsibilities include authorizing and approving new degree programs, managing state-funded financial aid programs and developing and advocating policies to maximize higher education’s contributions to the state and its citizens.

Primary Reports and Interactions

The Data

These reports provide statistical data related to the enrollments, student preparation and academic progress, degrees awarded, post-graduation employment outcomes, tuition, financial aid, and costs and expenditures per student at Ohio's higher education institutions.

The BUdget

Funding for higher education is appropriated in each fiscal year by the Ohio General Assembly. Department of Higher Education staff work closely with the Office of Budget and Management, the Ohio General Assembly and Ohio’s institutions of higher education to develop, refine and implement the biennial budget for higher education.

The Higher Education Information (HEI) system is a comprehensive relational database that includes student enrollment, course, financial aid, personnel, facilities, and finance data submitted by Ohio's colleges and universities. These data are used for a variety of purposes that include reporting on higher education outcomes, funding formula and financial aid program support, policy analysis, and strategic planning.
